Kathy, Your message brightened a rainy Monday! I'll be reading three flash pieces at Live from the Library. Two of them are entertaining, one is written with conviction. It's personal, unvarnished and difficult to read without crying. Thanks for the timely advice. Xxo
Excellent recommendations, Kathy! Congratulations on such a grand milestone on Substack! We're lucky to be connected with you. Also thank you for sharing the film. I adore your piece. Immensely powerful!
Thanks so much, Nadia! I'm falling behind on reading your newsletters and others as I'm visiting my newborn grandchild in Baltimore. I appreciate your stopping by and leaving a comment!
Love this as always, Kathy - finding the truth in the story, having the courage to say something powerful - those are the pieces that resonate and contain hidden depths.
Thanks for reading, Matt! I think often the "truth" is there waiting for us in the second or third draft. I know when I'm not feeling the energy or spark in the writing it's because I'm hedging a bit or I simply haven't discovered what I truly want to say.
Sometimes, it takes me years to work out what I want to say in a story - if only the truth was more evident. But after reading this, I'm going to approach things with more attack and conviction and hopefully I'll find that truth a little quicker.
“Now more than ever, it's important to say what we mean and mean what we say. We must bring authenticity to our work. Commit to what we're here to express.”
A wonderful read filled with some great actionable points. And certainly, the significance of being able to write without self-censorship (for the ack of a better word) takes real practice.
Great inspiration. I really appreciate the various perspectives in the video. Sometimes, too often, the narratives in my head get stuck in the amber of what should be. Have you ever noticed the conundrum of freedom: the desire for it? The responsibility of it? Boldness is sometimes heavy. Thank you.
I just watched the short film, and wow--all three of those stories are just incredible. Pairing them with music and voiceover works so well.
Thanks so much for stopping by and watching the film, too, Kristen!

Yes!!! Ever read Camus or Sartre?
Yes. Indeed.
