I checked out Mc Sweeney’s and read the Trader Joe’s story. So clever and funny.
Kathy, I see what you mean about writing a list story. I’ll give it a try. I’m still working on my Fib poem from Saturday. So much to do, so much fun to enjoy!
The Fib (as I found out for myself) is challenging! But fun too. Good luck with both, Rosemary, and thanks for taking part in the workshop on Saturday!
I love lists. They are my version of journaling and I have kept them since college or before. (A LONG time ago). This is a great prompt, and I didn't know about McSweeney's list stories. Thanks!
Ingrid, I don't think I could manage life without lists. I feel like I have a very disorganized brain and lists help me rein it all in, ha. My lists almost always have parentheticals after them, which would be another fun thing to play with as you work through this prompt. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment!
I like the idea of a list story, especially one that involves intrigue that can be surmised from the list. I have never thought of that approach. thank you.
So looking forward to Immersion! Thanks for the list prompt. My very first flash story was a list, written in a free community workshop at my local library. The list structure gave me such a sense of safety to go ahead and take some risks in approaching a difficult topic. I'm not sure I've returned to the structure since. Why not???!! That is one of many things I love about prompts...they can remind me to explore something familiar but also new, because I am different.
I look forward to reading new work by you, Katie! I am not surprised you got something really strong from your first attempt at a list story. I've talked before, I know, about how using different "containers" allows us to tell a difficult story "slant." So many surprising stories come from this approach! Good luck with your new list!
Kathy, I'm trying to enroll in your Oct. W. VA. workshop, but can't find site to do it. Are you sold out. Pls advise and, if not, send enrollment website. Thx Colene
Hi Colene! Last I heard, there was one space left! You can write to Ellen Weeren at Ellen.weeren@gmail.com. I'm crossing my fingers for you! I'd love to work with you in WV this fall. : )
Kathy, very much looking forward to the flash extravaganza! Did you mean Thursday, July 17, for the end date (NBD; just noticed this and thought I'd ask...)?
I love reading and writing list stories! I dream of writing an entire series of them—one day when I have the time.
Ha, in all that free time you have, right? But that's an awesome idea. I can see it.

It was an excellent experience. I learned so much from your prompts. Thank you.
Thank you for saying so. That’s so great to hear. 😊
I loooove McSweeneys!
Me too!

Oops yes! Thanks! I’ll change it…
