Writing with conviction and authenticity, that's the way to go! This article serves as a powerful reminder that we should embrace our unique voices and not dilute our work with unnecessary qualifiers. Saying what we mean and meaning what we say is how we gain trust and engage our readers. Let's write with power and conviction, just like Martin Luther King, Jr. and so many other great voices. πŸ“πŸ—£οΈπŸ‘

I love Amber's writing! Thank you for sharing this piece and the monologue assignment. When I taught in elementary school there used to be a competition where the students memorized a monologue and performed them. They called them Declamations. There was one about a girl wanting to be a vegetarian but also eating her mother's chicken and being shocked to find out it was meat. I need to find a copy of it now! Thank you Kathy.

Thanks for reading and leaving a comment, Tammy! I remember performing a humorous monologue for a speech contest which I added a lot of material to (which may have been against the rules, ha!) Glad you enjoyed!

I don't remember being required to memorize anything when I was in school except for all the scientific names of the muscles of the body and their spellings for health class in middle school. I wish someone would have made me memorize a poem. Maybe I will have to self impose an assignment.

I think it was a valuable skill to learn. Sort of learning how to teach myself things that I could then apply to other areas. Tammy, I have this idea of creating a group that just recites poems to each other and I love the idea of reciting them from memory! I've been trying to learn Italian lately and find my brain is not as agile as it used to be. I learned French so easily in high school! But I do think it would be lovely to know some poems by heart besides the ones I learned in the 5th grade.

I love the idea of a poem reading group! It is satisfying to hear poems read to me as a writing prompt and when I read them for my own groups.

Hmm learning a poem in another language is intriguing as well.
