I thought it was time for a new Flash Gambits post (see the first, “Rush to an Ending,” published in June).
One of my favorite flash moves is the ending that flashes into the future. Unique and evocative, this gambit let’s us imagine what may have happened in the gap, the expanse of time that goes unaccounted for, but that we can guess at. Done well, this type of landing expands our understanding of the story and characters and resonates emotionally well after reading.
I’ve included lots of great examples of the flash forward gambit below and, as always, a prompt for you to try!
