“You’ve got to realize that influence is not influence. It’s simply someone’s idea going through my new mind.”—Jean-Michel Basquiat

Hi friends,

First of all, thank you, thank you to all the new, upgraded subscribers! And to those of you who left such lovely notes along with your upgrades, thanks so much! You make my day. Substack unfortunately doesn’t give me a way to respond to these, but I’m very grateful and very glad you’re here and playing along with us this month. Your upgraded subscription unlocks all the archived newsletters and access to all the Flash Immersion Extravaganza prompts as well.

For Day Eight, let’s explore ekphrasis. One thing that’s always inspired my creativity is simply spending a day in an art gallery, something I’ve only done again recently. Maybe art inspires you as well. Today I’d like to talk a bit about the practice of ekphrastic poetry / prose.

The Keats poem, “Ode to a Grecian Urn” is an oft cited example.
